Steel reinforcement RFQ checklist

A clear request for quote (RFQ) helps recipients understand the reinforcement you need, how it is scheduled, and where and when it should be delivered. Use the project's applicable specifications and current drawings as the source for technical requirements; this checklist is a preparation aid, not a design or compliance standard.

Specify the requirement, schedule, and delivery

  1. Identify grade and specification

State the required grade and full specification or standard designation exactly as shown in the project documents. Name the drawing, specification, or schedule and its revision. Flag mandatory requirements separately from preferences; do not leave the recipient to infer a grade from the project description.

  2. Break out diameters and bar form

List each required bar diameter as a separate line, with its bar mark or other project reference where available. Clarify whether the request is for straight lengths, cut-and-bent bars, or another form, and include any required length or packing details from your project documents.

  3. Attach the bending schedule when relevant

For cut-and-bent requirements, attach the current bending schedule and the referenced drawings. Make the revision clear, and identify bar marks, shapes, dimensions, cut lengths, and quantities as your project documents provide them. Point out revisions or unresolved details rather than asking for assumptions.

  4. Give quantities and units by line

Show the quantity and unit for each grade, diameter, bar mark, or schedule section as applicable. Keep different specifications and delivery phases separate. Label estimates, allowances, and any requested quantity tolerance clearly so the response can address them explicitly.

  5. Describe coating or finish if applicable

If a coating, finish, or other treatment is required, identify it using the project's specified description and note which items it applies to. If none is specified or the requirement is unclear, ask for clarification rather than assuming a treatment or substitute.

  6. Plan delivery location and sequence

Provide the project emirate, site address or location, receiving point, and contact details as appropriate. For phased deliveries, list the quantity and requested date or sequence for each phase. Add known access, unloading, or receiving constraints and ask the respondent to state delivery assumptions.

  7. List documents and commercial details

Identify the documents you need with the quotation or delivery, such as product data, test or inspection records, certificates, or traceability details where applicable to the project. Ask the respondent to state currency, tax treatment, delivery and unloading scope, payment terms, quote validity, lead time basis, exclusions, and any proposed alternatives. Confirm technical acceptability through your project process.

Quick final check

  • Grade, specification, diameters, bar form, and schedule revision are unambiguous.
  • Quantities and units are broken out by item, with estimates identified.
  • Coating or finish is stated where applicable, without implying an unstated requirement.
  • Delivery location and each requested delivery phase are listed.
  • Attachments, requested documents, quote validity, and commercial assumptions are clear.

A complete brief helps recipients assess what is being requested; it does not establish product suitability, supply, pricing, or delivery. Confirm technical requirements through the project's applicable review process and commercial details directly with the respondent.
